Literature Text

Because I cannot be a butterfly,
Instead I am a girl.
I’m afraid to let you touch me,
Because my wings may curl.
My flying dust has vanished,
As I slip slowly from my cocoon,
I wait for the moth to greet me,
In an adjoining room.
I do not mind if you destroy me,
Just do not make me wait,
You see so many scorpions,
Have poisoned my entire fate.
I will never voyage,
To a place above the clouds,
Yet I’m still seeking nectar,
No one sees how fast,
Crickets  drown.
If you grasp me tightly,
Then crushed I may well be.
But once I finally am free,
A woman I shall be.
Because I cannot be a butterfly,
I shall have to be a girl,
I do not mind if you betray me,
Flowers are my world.
It’s sickening to be thinking,
That perhaps you see my strength,
I am very fragile,
But powerful,
Anyways.
Just do not abandon me,
I need you now,
You see.
I don’t know if hearts can heal,
But butterflies need wings.

Fantastic poem. As I was reading it, imagery was flowing in my head of the lyrics of the poem. I love the juxtaposition of butterflies with humans. Good job!
